Agnes Water, 1770 and the Discovery Coast
Agnes Water and the Town of Seventeen Seventy sit at the northern end of our run, in the Gladstone region, reached by the sealed road in from the Bruce Highway. The towns live on tourism: surf schools, reef and island trips out of the 1770 marina, fishing charters, camping and holiday accommodation. Then there's the steady building that comes with a growing coastal town.
All of that needs storage. Surfboards, kayaks, SUPs, snorkelling and camping gear for hire businesses. Charter operators' spare parts and safety equipment. Builders' materials on blocks where a shed is some way down the list. Households that have moved up the coast and brought more than fits in the new place.
Steep, treed and sandy blocks
The blocks here are the challenge. Much of Agnes Water is on hills covered in bush, with steep driveways, tight bends and gum trees right up to the house. Near the beach, the ground is sand. A tilt-tray needs a straight run and firm ground, and a lot of these blocks have neither.
A crane truck is often the right answer. It can lift a container over a fence, down a slope or into a gap between trees. It costs more than a tilt-tray, so work that out when you ask for a price rather than on the day. Send photos from the street, down the drive and of the spot, and we'll quote the right truck first time.
Hire businesses and charter operators
Tourism operators need storage near the water that locks, drains and can take a beating. A 20ft fitted with board racks and hooks keeps a surf or kayak hire fleet together and secure overnight. A high cube gives room to hang wetsuits and work inside with the doors shut.
Seasonal businesses can hire for the busy months rather than buy. Whichever you choose, rinse the salt off gear before it goes in, fit vents and keep everything off the floor. Condensation in a closed container causes more damage than rain ever does.
Grade on a long haul
Because Agnes Water is a long way from Bundaberg, it pays to get the grade right first time. Near the beach, choose a used cargo-worthy unit, checked wind and watertight, or a new single-trip unit if it's staying for years. An as-is unit, sold as seen and not watertight, is cheaper, but on the coast its existing rust spreads, and replacing it means another long trip.
Ask us for photos of the actual unit before it's delivered. It's the easiest way to be sure you're getting what you expect.
Where we deliver on the Discovery Coast
Agnes Water, Seventeen Seventy, Round Hill, Captain Creek, Rules Beach, Baffle Creek, Deepwater, Miriam Vale, Bororen and Lowmead, plus rural blocks along Round Hill Road. The Gin Gin page covers the country to the south-west, and the deliveries page lists the rest of our run.
Truck access in Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy
The run in along Round Hill Road is fine; the blocks themselves are the variable. Steep, treed and sandy is common, and a fair few places up here need a crane truck to get over a fence line or down a slope. That costs more than a tilt-tray, so it's worth establishing early rather than on the day. Send photos with your enquiry and we'll price it properly the first time.
For any address, the driver needs firm and level standing, room for the truck (around 20m of straight run for a tilt-tray, about 30m of working length for a sidelifter) and nothing low overhead. Getting the truck in on a Wide Bay block covers the detail.
Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy questions
Can you deliver a container to a steep block at Agnes Water?
Often, with a crane truck that can lift over fences and down slopes. It costs more than a tilt-tray, so send photos of the street, the drive and the spot when you enquire and we'll price the right truck.
Is it worth hiring for a tourist season?
For a business that needs extra storage only during peak months, hiring can be cheaper than buying. If you need it year-round, buying usually costs less over time. Tell us the months and we'll price both.
Which grade suits a block near Agnes Water beach?
A used cargo-worthy unit, checked wind and watertight, or a new single-trip unit for long-term outdoor use. As-is units are cheaper, but they're not sold watertight and don't hold up as well near salt.
Do I need Gladstone Regional Council approval?
Agnes Water and 1770 are in the Gladstone region. Whether you need approval depends on how long the container stays and the zoning, so check with Gladstone Regional Council before choosing a permanent spot.
